Spiritual Goodness, by Tui Tikoduadua
Goodness is one of the nine attributes of the Fruit of the Spirit. Goodness is an inward expression in the life of a believer that influences every thought, word, and deed. Goodness is divine when it is a direct result of the Holy Spirit’s influence in the life of a believer. When I think of goodness, it is morally excellent, beautiful, virtuous, worthy, and righteous.
Goodness is the action of doing something godly with the purest of heart. It is in Him that we move and have our being. When we trust and abide in God, the fruit of goodness is displayed in splendor and unity.
The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 All things work according to God’s purposes. I encourage you today to develop the character of goodness in your life. Come taste and see that the Lord is good (1 Peter 2:3). Offer a sacrificial act of goodness to a stranger and see what happens. Allow God to use you to perform good and righteous act.
For Christians, God is the One who defines moral goodness. He sets the standards, and it is His expectations that must be met. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph says to his brothers who had sold him into slavery, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about his present result, to preserve many people alive.”
Goodness comes from a focus on God and not a focus on what the world tells us is good. Goodness enables us to be liked and enjoyed, even if an enemy comes against us (Prov. 25:22). It is the taste of what is to come, the flavor of how we are to be. It is our expression of worship and gratitude to Christ played out in our lives.
Tui,
ReplyDeleteIt has been my prayer that we as Christians in leadership would demonstrate "Goodness" in everything that we say in action, word or deed. I believe that when we operate in placing Christ in the center of our lives. It is the Holy Spirit who enables and gives us the strength, potential and purpose in our drawing near to God. That is the place where we can trust Him completely and experience His the beauty of His splendor.
