A Faceless Name

I was created when God made Adam,

To be a friend and an ally.

I was given hands, like the man,

To hold and to create.

I was given feet like the woman

To spread nurture and love.

God also gave me eyes,

With which I could see the beauty of humanity

And God’s created things.

Adam used his mouth for dominion in the earth; with mine,

I have sung the praises of God

And have spoken wisdom to kings.

God’s heart longed for relationship, so he made Adam and Eve.

He fashioned, also, the heart of mankind –

For relationship, to love, and to live.

My heart was designed with the desire to unite –

To join the lost, the hurt, and the helpless.

I stood with Adam, Eve, and God in the garden.

I watched as they chose a tree over the King.

I yelled and I screamed,

But with the fruit of that tree they forgot my name.

Somehow they failed to see.

I continue to stand in that garden;

I called as many as I could to me.

Some have heard my voice and responded,

But even more have listened and have rejected me.

I stand where I have been placed.

Now, I am just a name without a face.

You may have seen me,

Yet you may have shuddered in disgrace.

With my hands, I long to hold you.

Let my feet carry us away.

Perhaps, here, you could heart my heartbeat.

Maybe you could listen as I pray.

I stand steady in this holy garden.

Great is my hope for you to join me.

If only you could see my face,

Maybe you would know my name.

I call to you!

I call to you brothers and sisters.

I call to you, dear humanity.

Come and join me in this garden.

My name is Unity.
